#21: YOUTHFUL INDISCRETION

While We’re Young, The Comedians, and Other Space, along with other screen stuff. Paul and Elgin chat about

  • Stuff they’ve watched on screens over the past month or so (e.g., the final episodes of Mad Men and the third season of The Americans and trailers for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens), as well as announcements about a myriad of new offerings from HBO, Netflix, and other streaming services.
  • While We’re Young, written and directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Naomi Watts, Ben Stiller, Adam Driver, and Amanda Seyfried. What’s this New York film featuring a charming 20-something couple and a in-a-rut 40-something couple really about?
  • FX’s The Comedians, starring Billy Crystal and Josh Gad. Does this “meta mockumentary” about a comedy legend and an up-and-comer young comic have enough laughs and heart to keep us glued to the screen?
  • Yahoo’s Other Space from Paul Feig, producer of Freaks and Geeks and Bridesmaids. This is a new workplace comedy taking place on a starship, based on an old “drawer script.” It features a young, diverse cast, mostly of unknown actors (though you might recognize one of them). Do the comic acting and storytelling overcome the deliberately shabby sets in this lo-fi sci-fi production?
